From My Pen to Yours: The Lord is Peace

This is a poem I have penned for my Humanities class.  My teacher asked us to write a few songs based the names of God.  For the first one, I chose Jehovah Shalom which means 'the Lord is peace'. I would turn it into a song if I could sing.  Since I can't sing, here are the lyrics:

Jehovah Shalom - The Lord is Peace

Broken and bruised, I come before You.
You hear my cries in the darkness.
You never said this would be easy,
But why is this so hard?

I just want to come home.
I just want to be in Your arms once again.
But the enemy of my soul is here
Saying, “You’re nothing.”

I want to run and hide but
I’m sinking here in this pit of doubt.
I want to stand and hold my ground
But he just pulls me down again.

I’m drowning in this storm.
I’m losing all control.
I’m all alone in the darkness.
But then I see a light.

Can it be You?
Is that really Your hand reaching down?
Are You really trying to save me?
I’ve done nothing worthy of Your help.

But You rescue me
You save me from the storm I’m in.
You have pulled me out,
Pulled me close to You.

The enemy of my soul is here
Saying, “You’re nothing.”
But You wrap me tight, saying,
“You’re everything to me.”

And I can’t help but cry,
Knowing all that I’ve done
Is forgiven in Your eyes.
And all that I can say is, “Thank You.”

Thanks for reading!
